" C H I L D R E N O F T H E M O O N "
Many Native American legends describe a pale moon goddess who made periodic
appearances on land. People with albinism born into a tribe were sometimes
called "children of the moon" because of the fair coloration they shared
with the moon goddess and because they needed to stay out of strong sunlight
during the day.
Below are works that echo such mythology.
Diana Bryer, "Sheepherder's Dream," oil on linen, 42 x 30 in.
Mark Henson, "Moondancer," oil on canvas, 28 x 38 in. (detail)
Judy J. King, "Amaris (Child of the Moon)"
